![]() I understand you want to enjoy some alcohol on your sister's big day. If you miss a dose, the medicine will not work as well. If you are planning on missing a dose so that you can reduce the likelihood of complications, that's a bad idea. I imagine the higher the dose and the longer you take it, the higher the risks will be when you also drink alcohol. July 20, That's best answered by your doctor because I don't know what dose of nitrofurantoin you're taking, how many doses per day and for how many days/weeks. Like I said, please don't make your decision based on my experience. It's not a good idea to have more than one or two light alcoholic drinks regardless of which antibiotic you're taking. The emphasis is on the moderate part though. So I think that for the most part, if you drink moderately, it will be fine. But I haven't heard of that happening with nitrofurantoin. My friend had a drink while taking the antibiotic metronidazole once and she did have bad side effects. I think that nitrofurantoin is one of the better antibiotics that is not as dangerous when combined with alcohol. ![]() I didn't have any side effects or any problems. When I was on nitrofurantoin, I did have one beer on two separate occasions. ![]() This is just my opinion so please don't make a decision based on this alone.
